One of our dear friend recently sent a WhatsApp message to us. It read, "Both of you really match your clothes well and it makes the picture looks good."
I was reluctant to heed her request initially because I felt that it took too
much of an effort from me. Besides, doing that seemed to be having to give up my
rights - why can't I decide to wear what I like to wear? While I started reluctantly, I gave in to
her requests eventually.
The fact is that
coordinating what we wear does make us look good as a couple. There is no doubt about that. Though this practice may have started purely from the fashion angle, it has now gone beyond fashion for us.
After years of having to first consider and/or ask Michelle what she would be wearing before picking my own clothes to match, I picked up the good habit of valuing Michelle more than myself. That simple consideration for something as trivial as color coordinating our clothing grew into my consideration for her feelings and opinions to many other things and decisions in our marriage.
Actually, God has given this instruction - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." (Phil 2:3-4)
I didn't realize that I was merely obeying God's word when I first started to coordinate my dressing with Michelle's. It has worked well for our relationship because we are living out God's instruction!
Coordinating what you and your lover wear is not just about fashion. It makes you mindful of and accords due and needful consideration for your lover's interest. It will help lovers not only to look good as a couple on the outside, it will certainly help them to look into each others' interest before their own. And this is good.
Try it .... it works wonder for your relationship and can make you a better lover!
